@scep dick, research is very time consuming and very expensive. It can take years to get a treatment to the market place. In the case of drug development, up to ten years, so you can imagine this is not cheap.
.

Also, at any one time there will be multiple research teams working on the same problem trying to find a cure. I work in ageing, my current project is in ALS/Motor Neuron Disease and currently there are hundreds of scientists working on this problem, all over the world.
.

You might have noticed that Bill Gates recently dedicated $10 billion (yes, I said ten billion, not million) towards vaccines in third world countries. This might make a dent, but not fix the problem. This money also needs to cover costs of manufacture, distribution, and administration. A huge undertaking.
.

With respect to cancer, it is a bugger of a disease, and there is not just one type of cancer. Each one may require a different kind of therapy. So we have a multi-factorial problem which requires ongoing and continued financial investment.
.

You might be interested in the latest research being undertaken into a vaccine for hookwork for the third world, which is being sponsored (in part) also by Bill Gates, as an example of how much is involved in developing drugs.

There are some people that irritate me even more than telemarketers. Science-denying, scaremongering, ignorant fibbers, for example. And this one's pants are well and truly on fire.

Imagine being so out of touch with reality that you abuse some poor telemarketer with your idiotic opinions. Yes, I know who said it but it wouldn't have been hard to guess.

A "children’s charity that is involved in preventing cancer". It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic and so untrue.
